    Sharpie Strikes Back...

    The Empire Sharpie Strikes Back.

Okay movie geeks, get your compilations out, and start playing the Star Wars theme tune, because today, we will be counting down the top 10 movie songs.

But first, an advertising pitch, on behalf of RRR.

Random Rampage has a modest little collection of alt. rock.  Well modest, is being, well, modest! But Radio Stations tend to have a large amount of music, it's part of the Radio part you see.

Well, anyway, just in case you didn't know (or you have some kind of stupidness that Andrew tends to develop around women), you can view the collection/library/insert plural for collection of alternative rock music on the Requests page.  So head on over there and get requesting and thats an order!

So, on the top ten movie songs (Savagely ripped  from the CNN webpage on the interweb):

    10. 8 Mile - Lose yourself

    9. The Andrew Muppet Movie - Rainbow Connection

    8. Dirty Dancing - I've Had the Time of My Life

    7. Donny Darko - Its a Mad World

    6. Easy Rider - Born to Be Wild

    5. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (not true in Andrew's case) - Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend

    4. Armageddon - Don't Wanna Miss A Thing

    3. Beauty and the Beast - Beauty and the Beast

    2. Casablanca - As Time Goes By

    and

    at

    1. Wizard of Oz - Over the Rainbow.

Okay, the purpose of that was just to prove the following:

Movie music is rubbish... becuase Sharpie says!

Yet another editorial note from Andrew what about decode from Paramore ? That's a moive soundtrack...

Band of the Week (Month) (3 Months)
    Written by Sharpie!
    Monday, 10 November 2008

Last time, Sharpie also said that we would look at the Lostprophets, the next week.  Realising that that post was made about 3 months ago, he looked back, paniced and then posted this one.

The Lostprophets are a Welsh band that were formed in 1997.  That makes them 11 years old! Wow.  If only Britney had lasted that long.  Anyway, they are the proud owners of 3 albums.

Their first album (thefakesoundofprogress) was made for under £4000 and was originally intended as a demo.  The lyrics and the songs on the first album denoted to ‘the prophets’ childhood.  For example, the song Shinobi vs Dragonninja is based on 2 popular video games from the prophet's childhood.

The second album (Start Something) was made for more that £4000 and is perceived as being the best one (by which I mean I like it the best).  It reached number 4 in the UK album chart but only reached 69 in the French Album Chart.  What? Is it like the French don't like the Welsh or something... come to think of it.

Their third and latest album (Liberation Transmission) is the best so far, not from my point of view, but the UK public as they voted it as their NUMBER ONE album.  The latin phrase on the cover of the album (nobis pro lemma vobis) translates as "For Us, For Them, For You" which is a line from their song, Burn Burn.

So, that was another interesting fun filled fact post from Sharpie.  Lol

    Updates all round

All the updates took alot less time than I thought the station was only offline for about 10-15 minuites. The updates are in short:

Abulm covers down the side got an update now almost every track has a cover (maybe 5 don't).
Requests are working again and reflect the new playlist.
Changed the software to use a new database system, should be much faster and the huge 10 minute pauses that sometimes used to appear in between tracks should be gone. Should also allow some cool new features to be added like the 10 most requested songs to be played in their own 'show'.
Some playlist changes over the weekend to look out for.

    Expected downtime on Firday

In light of the upgrades to the stream some changes need to take place on both sides of the Alantic mainly on Scottish side meaning that both 64 and 160kb streams will be offline. To try and lower the impact of  this the updates will most likely happen from 11pm (GMT) onwards shouldn't take more than a couple of hours. Depending on how this goes we might be able to keep music coming from the 64kbps stream but the tracks updates at the top and right side of the site will not update. Just thought I'd give you all a heads up.

    New Super High Quality

Now the chances are that Random Rampage sounds better than your MP3 collection. I've just inseveted in a new server in Atlanta, Goriga (US east coast) which can take plenty of listeners at 160kbps and most MP3s you'll have at home will be at only 128kb. So now there is no excuse for not listening. Currently you'll need winamp to listen via: http://66.71.245.242:8010/listen.pls but links for other players will role out accross the site over the few days. It'll be up for a couple of months to see how it goes, and if there is a good uptake I'll keep it running. Unlike the current stream this one might not so stable as I'm manageing the server and if you some how you manage to rack up 500GB worth of listening between you then it'll be offline for the rest of the month but I don't see that happening. Not to worry if you can't the listen to the new one the old stream will be staying as well.

Right some good and bad news.
Bad first, since that has already happened and I guess some of you may have noticed. At 7:21am Eastern and around 2:21pm UK (Saturday) the server that streams Random Rampage went offline for 7 hours but all is back in working order. Good news is i've just updated the playlist, click read me more to see a track listing.

    Things to look forward to

    Some new upcoming ablums:

The Killers - Day And Age
You Me At Six - Take Off Your Colours
Fall Out Boy - Folie A Deux
Funeral For A Friend - Memory And Humanity

All of that before the middile of November, obviously those will be making their way onto here. The podcast is closer than ever to getting done, should be ready by the start of November it'll be called impluse and as well as being available for download it will play on Random Rampage it's looking like it could have a slot on Thursday at 8PM (GMT). I don't want to give to much away but it'll take the basic format of a band interview with a few of their songs.

    New Voiceover Ideas
    Written by Andrew
    Tuesday, 02 September 2008
So we're looking, at getting some new voiceovers. Either pay for some proper ones or get 'crazy guy' who does some of them at the moment to do some new ones (By the way, he's a trade secret so don't ask for his contact details, we know you want him...) anyway we want your ideas. Fitting in with the random ones we have at the moment is good. So drop us as email or if you want to record us your  own and send it in that's also good. Do it by email or phone if you wish but I think the voicemail on the london number is the only one at works at the moment.
